Silver Linings

A response to Thomas Shires’ Clouds Over Bolton (photo print)
Stuart Beveridge

A man whistling, He’s
Got the Whole World in His Hands,
Aldi, eight a.m.
Tuesday, every week,
an elderly couple meet.
They ride into town.

One dog holds the lead
in its mouth, walking alone.
Pure, unbridled, joy.
Perfectly the moon
floats, aligned along my street,
as I return home

Somehow hope finds you
in places you least expect.
Even in Bolton.
