1 INT. SARAH AND PETE’S BEDROOM – NIGHT 1
SARAH, a fake-tan addict (30’s), is hopping around her bedroom trying, and failing, to zip up her body-hugging dress. Her husband, PETE, who looks like his face doesn’t match thesmart shirt he’s wearing, watches her in amazement from the doorway of the room.
I’m sure that’s like the fifth dress you’ve had on now.
SARAH jumps and lets out a gasp of surprise. She turns to face PETE and puts her hands on her hips in defiance.
How long have you been stood there?
Long enough to get a good show
And did you just come to laugh, or?
(Still laughing slightly)
I just came to see whether I should order a taxi … Obviously I need to make myself comfy!
I do try
Just zip this bloody thing up, will ya?
SARAH continues to struggle with the zip on the back of her dress. PETE wanders over to his wife with a coy smile on his face, slips his hand inside the back of her dress, toying with the clasp of her black, lacy bra. He kisses the top of her back lightly.
Are you sure we have to go to this thing?
She laughs slightly, shrugs him off and busies herself with various make-up items strewn across the large vanity table. She begins to apply a pale pink lipstick.
We’d have a lot more fun here though
PETE slips his arms around her waist and continues kissing her back lightly. He moves upwards towards her neck and she tilts her head sideways, allowing him to continue.
We’re gonna be late
PETE continues to kiss SARAH’s neck. The pale pink lipstick drops to the ground.
2 INT. ENTRANCE HALL OF SARAH AND PETE’S HOUSE – NIGHT 2
Front door of house is open, revealing a taxi parked in front of the terraced house.
PETE stands in the doorway and mimes ’one minute’ to the taxi driver using his index finger.
SARAH runs down the stairs, a pair of heeled stilettos in one hand, a small silver clutch bag, in the other. She throws the shoes onto the ground and quickly forces her feet into them. She rushes out of the door, as fast as the heels allow, and opens the back door of the taxi.
Shit shit shit!
SARAH hobbles back to the house just as PETE attempts to lock the door.
What’ve you forgotten?
SARAH grabs a large silver gift bag from the entrance hall and holds it up to PETE. She rushes back to the taxi and climbs inside, slamming the door behind her.
3 EXT. COUNTRY LANES – NIGHT 3
Follow taxi as it drives through winding country lanes, surrounded by acres of land. Clearly in a posher area than at SARAH and PETE’S house.
4 EXT. BASSET MANOR – NIGHT 4
Taxi pulls up on the long driveway of the grand Basset Manor. There are groups of people laughing and talking animatedly around the entrance. The dull sound of a band performing inside fills the air.
The door of the taxi opens, out steps SARAH, who smooths her fitted dress with her hands, removing any kinks. She looks up at the entrance in front of her with a smile on her face.
(From inside the taxi)
Keep the change pal.
SARAH shuts the door behind her and starts walking slowly towards the entrance. PETE catches up with her, smacks her playfully on the bum and puts his arm around her.
I’ll give ’em sommat – they know how to flash the cash!
5 INT. BASSET MANOR – NIGHT 5
They walk into the entrance hall and spot MELISSA, a blonde, typically beautiful woman, greeting several of her other guests. MELISSA spots the couple, says goodbye to the guests and rushes over to them, a glass of prosecco in her hand.
The two embrace whilst PETE stands awkwardly next to them. MELISSA looks towards PETE and smiles.
And this must be the infamous hubby?
PETE holds out his hand to MELISSA who completely ignores it and embraces him too.
Famous in a good way, I hope?
Of course, of course!
So where’s the lucky man, eh? Made his escape already?
SARAH nudges PETE hard in the ribs. MELISSA doesn’t seem to be listening as she scans the room, clearly looking for someone.
Ah, there you are!
MELISSA rushes over to MIKE, a tall, groomed man who has obviously never seen the inside of a high-street store. He turns to greet SARAH and PETE and places his arm around MELISSA’S shoulder.
SARAH’S mouth parts slightly at the appearance of MIKE. She coughs slightly to compose herself.
Mike, Sarah. Sarah, Mike.
MIKE smiles at SARAH warmly, whilst she struggles to keep eye contact with him. No one seems to notice.
She’s the one who used to steal sweets from the corner shop with me on Saturday nights.
She kept that one quiet!
PETE laughs and begins to talk with MELISSA – unable to hear the conversation. MIKE moves forward to greet SARAH. He kisses her cheek and places his hand at the bottom of her back. A little lower than it should be. SARAH squirms slightly at his touch.
(Whispers softly in her ear)
Very nice to meet you, Sarah.
6 INT. GIRLS TOILET – BASSET MANOR – NIGHT 6
SARAH leaves a cubicle, washes her hands and stares at herself in the mirror in front of her, a coy smile creeps onto her face.
SARAH opens her clutch bag and pulls out her phone. She begins to type out a text message:
PHONE SCREEN VISIBLE: ’NEED TO POWDER YOUR NOSE?’
SARAH presses send and looks up into the mirror. SARAH bites her lip slightly and pulls out her pale pink lipstick, taking care to apply it in the mirror.
7 INT. BAR – BASSET MANOR – NIGHT 7
A male’s hand is visible as it pulls out a phone from a pocket. The phone comes to life:
PHONE SCREEN VISIBLE – ONE UNREAD MESSAGE – SARAH ’NEED TO POWDER YOUR NOSE?’
The hand doesn’t reply to the text, just locks the phone and slips it back inside the pocket.
It reaches towards bar and picks up a near empty pint of lager. It is lifted to the lips of the man, which is revealed to be MIKE. He takes a large swig of the pint and smiles.
8 INT. GIRLS TOILET – BASSET MANOR – NIGHT 8
The bathroom door swings open and in walks MIKE. SARAH tucks away her lipstick carefully into her bag and turns to look at MIKE.
We’ve got five minutes before she starts looking for me.
SARAH walks over to MIKE and places her arms around his neck. She leans up on her tiptoes and kisses him lightly around his lips, teasing him.
There’s a lot we can do in five minutes.
MIKE picks SARAH up, who wraps her legs around his waist. The pair continue to kiss passionately. MIKE carries her towards an empty cubicle. SARAH lets out a small squeal in delight and pushes the cubicle door behind them.
