Daffodils in the Snow

On tiptoe they stand,
poised,
feet icy cold,
waiting for the sun.
To dry the creases
out of their golden dresses,
their long, green ribbons,
so that they can joyfully
dance again in the wind
until the end of spring
returns them to the earth
to rest, to wait
for their next cue.
